Women’s Aid react to the publication of the Independent Pornography Review
Sophie Francis-Cansfield, Head of Policy at Women’s Aid, said:
“While Women’s Aid welcome the Independent Pornography Review published by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and agree with the findings, we are concerned that the proposals made are voluntary for tech companies.
Online violence against women and girls, including intimate-image based abuse, is an epidemic which that needs to be responded to with serious action. Specialist organisation, like Women’s Aid and our members, have and will continue to call for these recommendations to be made into a code of practice, which would give Ofcom the power to hold tech and social media companies to account for abuse perpetrators on their platforms.”
