25 Interesting Dating App Prompts

These are some fun prompts that can help you spark a conversation and hopefully even land a date:

“What’s your idea of the perfect first date?”

— Asking for a friend. (Okay fine, it’s me).

“Two truths and a lie.”

— I’ll start…

“Pick a side: Team Tea or Team Coffee?”

— Your answer may determine our future.

“What’s your go-to karaoke song?”

— Bonus points if you can guess mine!

“What’s a movie or TV show you’ve rewatched a million times?”

— No judgment if it’s Friends.

“Let’s settle this debate: Is pineapple on pizza genius or criminal?”

— Because let’s face it, there’s really only one right answer.

“What’s one piece of advice you swear by?”

— Serious or silly, I’m all ears.

“What’s the most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done?”

— Should I be impressed or nervous?

“The most random thing you’ve Googled recently is…”

— I promise not to judge… much.

“What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge right now?”

— Asking for academic purposes.

“If you were a character in a movie, what would your tagline be?”

— Mine might just involve snacks.

“If you could invent a new national holiday, what would it celebrate?”

— And do we get the day off?

“The most millennial thing about you is…”

— Guilty of avocado toast crimes?

“What’s the cringiest thing you believed as a kid?”

— Mine may or may not involve a blue cherry tree growing in my tummy.

“What’s the last meme that made you laugh out loud?”

— Come on, be honest!

“The best dad joke you know—GO!”

— I promise to laugh (probably).

“What’s something you’ve always wanted to try but never have?”

— Maybe we can do it together.

“If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?”

— Don’t worry, I’ll share.

“What’s your least favorite chore, and how much would you pay someone to do it?”

— Hypothetically, of course.

“What’s your most irrational fear?”

— Mine’s probably weirder.

“If you had to describe me in three emojis, which would they be?”

— ???.

“What’s your go-to move for impressing someone?”

— I’m ready to be wowed.

“What’s your favorite compliment to give?”

— Practice on me.

“What’s the most creative excuse you’ve ever used to cancel plans?”

— This way, I’ll know if you’re lying. 😉

“If we could skip all the small talk, what’s one thing you’d want to know about me?”

—  Go deep or go home.

Strategies for Success

We asked the experts for some dos and don’ts that can help you craft dating app prompts that stand out:

  • Bring out your playful side: Use humor, puns, or clever wordplay to showcase your fun and playful side.
  • Highlight your interests: “One way you can make a dating app prompt stand out is by highlighting your hobbies and interests,” says Elizabeth Hughes, LPCC, a therapist at ADHDAdvisor. This helps attract people with shared interests.
  • Invite conversation: Ask engaging questions or leave an open-ended statement that encourages potential matches to reply.
  • Be authentic: “To make a dating app prompt stand out, focus on being unique, engaging, and authentic,” says Tatiana Rivera Cruz, MSW, LCSW, a therapist at ADHDAdvisor. Use this opportunity to showcase the passions or quirks that make you unique.
  • Balance confidence and approachability: Be confident without coming across as arrogant. A touch of self-deprecating humor can make you more relatable.
  • Avoid lying: Avoid lying or being inauthentic when creating a prompt, says Hughes. “These prompts may be your first impression with a match and you don’t want to start off a relationship with a lie or inauthenticity.”
  • Skip the overused clichés: Skip the overdone phrases and get specific and original instead. Research shows that potential matches are more attracted to people with original text on their profiles than people who recycle common tropes.
  • Steer clear of negative or overly intrusive prompts: Negative prompts, such as asking about dislikes or past relationship failures, can create a heavy tone and discourage potential matches, says Cruz. Similarly, she recommends avoiding overly personal or invasive questions too soon, like asking about someone’s salary, family issues, or religious beliefs unless it’s relevant and both parties are comfortable.
  • Use sarcasm cautiously: Sarcasm or humor that could be misinterpreted might come across as rude or dismissive, Cruz explains. While humor can be effective, it’s important to make sure it’s inclusive and not off-putting.

Keep in Mind

The right dating app prompt is your chance to make a memorable first impression. Whether you choose to be funny, thoughtful, or creatively quirky, the key is to let your true personality shine through.

Remember, your goal isn’t to appeal to everyone—it’s to attract the right someone you can vibe with. So, take a little time to fine-tune your prompts, test what works, and don’t be afraid to switch things up. Who knows? It might just lead to the start of something amazing.
