Hello Friends, I recently had the joy of watching a live production of my favorite musical The Sound of Music, and it was an absolute delight. One moment that really stuck with me was the iconic lesson from the song “Do-Re-Mi”: “Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start.” Just like learning to sing by beginning with the basics, summer is a wonderful time to embrace a fresh start and reflect on our relationships, our faith, and how we’re living our lives. As we enjoy the sunshine and longer days, let’s take this melody of new beginnings and apply it to our personal growth, one step at a time. Join me as we explore the harmonious journey towards healthier and more fulfilling relationships.

Today’s Question: I am a new Christian and recently found your ministry. I realized after listening to a few of your Instagram lives that I have some really unhealthy relationship habits. People pleasing, holding grudges, and making up wild stories about how other people view me. I don’t know where to begin. Where do I start?

LeAnne’s Response:

First of all, welcome to the community and congratulations on your new journey in Christ! I believe that the Lord will guide you as you take steps to better understand yourself and your relationships. Recognizing unhealthy habits like people-pleasing, holding grudges, and worrying about how others see you is no small feat, and I’m so glad you’ve found our ministry as a resource. Let’s take a deep breath together, and embrace Sister Maria’s advice!  My friend, you’re not alone, and every small step you take is a victory.

.Do: “A Deer, a Female Deer” – Discover Self-Awareness

The first note in our relationship journey is “Do,” which stands for discovering self-awareness. Just as a deer represents gentleness and grace, start by being gentle with yourself. Pay attention to your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors in your relationships. Journaling can be a great way to explore these aspects and understand your patterns. This foundational step is about recognizing where you are and identifying the areas you want to grow in.

Scripture: Psalm 139:23-24 – “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Re: “A Drop of Golden Sun” – Reflect on Your Needs and Boundaries

Next, we have “Re,” symbolizing reflection. Imagine the warmth and clarity of a drop of golden sun. Reflect on what you need from your relationships and consider the boundaries that will help you protect your well-being. This might involve setting limits on how much you give to others or learning to say no when necessary. Reflecting on your needs and boundaries ensures you maintain a healthy balance in your interactions.

Scripture: Proverbs 4:23 – “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Mi: “A Name I Call Myself” – Mindful/Thoughtful Communication

“Mi” encourages us to think about how we communicate, as it’s the name we call ourselves. Mindful communication means being present and intentional with your words and actions. It involves listening actively, speaking honestly, and ensuring that your communication aligns with your values and needs. Practice expressing yourself clearly and compassionately, both to yourself and to others. This thoughtful approach helps build stronger, more authentic connections.

Scripture: Ephesians 4:29 – “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

Fa: “A Long, Long Way to Run” – Forgive and Let Go

“Fa” reminds us that the journey can be long, and part of this journey involves forgiveness. Holding grudges and harboring resentment can weigh us down. Embrace the freedom that comes with forgiving others and yourself. It’s about letting go of the past to move forward with a lighter heart. Remember, forgiveness is a gift you give to yourself to find peace and healing.

Scripture: Colossians 3:13 – “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

So: “A Needle Pulling Thread” – Seek Support

“So” signifies the thread that ties everything together—seeking support. Just as a needle needs a thread to fulfill its purpose, we need supportive relationships to thrive. Surround yourself with people who uplift and encourage you. Engage in small groups, Bible studies, or fellowship gatherings where you can share your experiences with other Godly women and learn from trusted others. A strong support system can provide the encouragement and accountability needed for growth.

Scripture: Galatians 6:2 – “Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.”

La: “A Note to Follow So” – Look to God for Guidance

“La” reminds us to look to God for guidance, just as we follow a note in a melody. Spend time in prayer and scripture to deepen your relationship with God. Reflect on key scriptures such as Romans 12:2 and 1 Peter 5:7, which offer wisdom and reassurance. Trust in God’s plan for your life and lean on His strength as you navigate your journey.

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Ti: “A Drink with Jam and Bread” – Transform with Gratitude

Finally, “Ti” stands for transformation through gratitude. Just as a refreshing drink with jam and bread nourishes the body, gratitude nourishes the soul. Practice gratitude daily by acknowledging the positive aspects of your relationships and personal growth. This mindset shift can transform how you view challenges and help you appreciate the progress you make

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 – “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”.

Starting this journey towards healthier relationships and emotional well-being is brave and courageous. Be patient and kind to yourself as you navigate this path. Transformation takes time, and each small step forward is significant. Start at the very beginning, dear one!

By addressing people-pleasing, letting go of grudges, and challenging negative perceptions, you can cultivate healthier relationships and a more peaceful, fulfilling life.

May God’s grace and love guide you every step of the way. You’ve got this, and we’re here for you.
